iPad Books Will Reshape Multimedia

Finally, my iPad book, Living With Autism, a multi-touch book has been published on iTunes. The iPad, for me, is a good platform to tell multimedia stories. But I faced many challenges publishing from Nepal.

For seven years as a journalist, I worked on a television station in Nepal; I also wrote for print, online, blogs, and on social media. No platform has been as effective in telling a simple story than the iPad. It’s quite interesting with the flexibility it provides – one can include photo galleries, video, interactive diagrams, 3D objects, and more. The iBooks Author app, which allows users to create books on the iPad, is an easy-to-use software that has helped me design, layout and publish the book. Living with Autism, free to download for iPad, is divided into five sections and is supplemented by infographics, photos, video, text and social media elements.

Autism is a life-long neuro-developmental disorder. The United Nations has said that autism is growing as a global health crisis. But many people in Nepal don’t know about autism because we lack awareness programs.

“A picture a day”

News story. News story. And another news story… This has actually been my routine these days. Working as a television journalist for the last six years in one of the leading televisions of Nepal, I have been largely dealing with different stories and characters. I have been doing up to four or five TV stories a day. These could be short to long format stories and also television packages.

“If i were a bird, i would fly…”

I spent some moments with the birds on my rooftop, here are some pictures. Their way of living is simply great, they are spontaneous and light. It looks they never face any problems. These pictures are dedicated to all the birds in the world. You are one of the wonderful creatures in the world and you have made this world a beautiful place with your song and dance.

“Live in Joy”

Let me confess I am still a student of photography. But from my early days I was very much interested in this art. I still remember my dad using a normal analog camera to take pictures in different ceremonies. I used to touch the camera and feel it.
After passing my SLC, I once bought a film and took the camera and went outside to shoot everything I saw. I also took pictures of Ravi Shankar’s program on “The Art of Living” that was organized in Kathmandu nearly a decade ago.
Now my job as a journalist allows me to visit new places and new people. So, i am getting close to my interest. It’s also about communicating with people and interacting with them. That’s why I like my profession.

Social networks: The utility aspects

“The social networking sites in Nepal have more good stories to tell than the bad stories. It is the best vehicle to network and find your lost friends. For some, it has been a good source to find news. But, the best thing about social networking sites is that it is increasing Nepali internet users.”
Social networking and mi cro-blogging sites are getting quite popular among Nepalis in recent time. But, even the techno savvy people have taken the road to deactivate their Facebook accounts. A friend of mine had entered into the social networking sites in the early days. Yet, he has intends to deactivate his Facebook account all because one of his friends started flirting with his close girl friend. The person became a friend via the Facebook. But, the girl didn’t know that the two were friends. Eventually, the bad guy started giving unnecessary calls and troubled her. My friend realized the incident. He found out that the guy got the information and contact details from the Facebook site. That intrusion made him think of quitting the social network site.
